Syrian official spokesman denies secret talks with Israel
Syria-Israel, Politics, 5/8/2003
Syria's Foreign Ministry Official Spokesman on Wednesday said: Syria absolutely denied any secret meetings or messages between Syrian and Israeli officials in a bid to resume Syrian-Israeli peace talks.
Syria rejects the Israeli lies which were circulated by media and which were reported by the Israeli daily Maariv and announced by Israeli officials.
"Syria has worked hard to settle a just and comprehensive peace in the region and has been involved in peace talks with the direct contribution of the United States but it always rejected any secret negotiations whatever level" the official spokesman added.
Syria stressed that building peace is an honor and it must be done openly and in the daylight.
Syria knows that the Israeli lies targets Syria's credibility on the Arab and international levels. Syria affirmed its clear stances expressing readiness to return to peace negotiations based on Madrid Conference, UN Security Council resolutions and the principle of "land for peace" stressing that this stance is firm and has never changed.
