Riyadh announces foiling a terrorist attempt

Saudi Arabia's ministry of the interior yesterday announced that the security forces were able to "foil a large terroristattack" on Tuesday evening in the city of Riyadh and a large amount of explosives was confiscated.

The Saudi official news agency quoted a statement by an official source at the ministry of the interior saying that the security forces were able to confiscate large amounts of explosives, weapons, ammunition, all prepared for carrying out destructive terrorist acts. This was disclosed when an investigation team of the security department was chasing wanted persons convicted of having links to blowing up a house to the East of Riyadh on March 18th.

The Saudi ministry of the interior announced the blowing up of an explosive on March 18th in one of the houses to the East of Riyadh that resulted in the death of one person in the house where bombs, machine guns, ammunition and explosives were found.

The statements added that "field follow up monitored the moves of these wanted persons who often come to a house situated in Ishbilya quarters to the East of Riyadh ." The statement continued that " When some of them left, one of the security groups followed them and they started to open fire at the security men of the group ." The statement said the security men found in a smuggled car " 55 mortars, 208 machine gun bullets, 38 mm caliber bullets as well as several travel documents and a sum of 253, 717 Saudi Riyals and USD 5300."

The statement said that when the house from which they had fled was also inspected, large iron- steel bags were found filled with explosives of 377 Kg weight, four Klashinkov rifles, three ammunition boxes including 2250 bullets and other bullets of different caliber, five computers and several telecommunications sets.

The statement said that names of persons involved in this case are known, adding that 19 of them are wanted including 17 Saudis, one Kuwaiti of Iraqi origin having Canadian nationality and one Yemeni in addition to others who will be disclosed at appropriate time.
