Qatari FM official: No Qatari mediation between Kuwait, Amr Moussa
Qatar-Regional, Politics, 5/7/2003
An official source at the Qatari foreign ministry said that the talks between the Amir of Qatar, Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa dealt with the developments of current conditions and means of coordinating Arab stances to deal with these conditions, especially the situation in Iraq and means of alleviating the sufferings of the Iraqi people and enabling them to maintain self determination and choosing their government democratically as soon as possible as well as maintaining Iraq's unity and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
The source added that the talks also dealt with the situation in the Palestinian territories in light of forming a new Palestinian government chaired by Mahmoud Abbas and announcing the Road Map which aims at achieving a political settlement on the ground of international resolutions, so as to end the Israeli occupation in a just and comprehensive peace providing for Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories of 1967.
Replying to a question on whether the state of Qatar intends to play the mediating role between the Arab League chief and Kuwait, the source said none of the two sides asked for that, noting that the stand of the state of Qatar is clear in calling to putting away differences and concentrate on unifying Arab efforts and stances and revitalizing common solidarity to withstand impending challenges.
