New Israeli ambassador in Jordan
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 5/6/2003

Jordan yesterday approved the decision of the Israeli government to nominate Yaqoub Haddas Handlsman to be its extraordinary ambassador to Jordan.

Haddas, who worked as a chairman for the Israeli representation office in Doha, succeeds the current ambassador David Dadoun, the fourth Israeli ambassador to Jordan since the signing of the peace agreement between Jordan and Israel in 1994.

On the other hand, the Jordanian minister of state for foreign affairs Shaher Bak described statements made by the Israeli minister of tourism Benjamin Eylon on the establishment of a Palestinian state to the west of the Jordanian river as "ridiculous." Shaher Bak said in a statement issued yesterday by the Jordanian al-Rai that Eylon does not reflect the position of the Israeli government. He indicated that the "thoughts of extremists such as Alloun did not and will not be listened to by the USA."
