Al-Shara hold telephone talks with Papandreou, Palacio
Syria-European Union, Politics, 5/6/2003

Syria's Foreign Minister, Farouk al-Shara received on Monday two phone calls from Greek Foreign Minister, George Papandreou, and from Spanish Foreign Minister, Ana Palacio.

The two ministers briefed Shara on results of the European Union Foreign Ministers meeting, recently held in Greece, which included a European assertion on the necessity of enhancing the union relations with Syria and the Arab states, increasing Arab-European dialogue and the necessity of realizing peace in the region.

The Ministers exchanged opinions regarding results of the recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell to Damascus.

Al-Shara stressed to Papandreou and Palacio that Powell's talks in Damascus were frank and important and touched on several issues related to the current developments in the region and didn't include any warning as the media conveyed after Powell's return to his country.
