Israeli detention operations, PA calls for implementing Road Map, Sharon to visit Washington
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/5/2003

One young Palestinian was killed and other 6 were killed by the Israeli soldiers at Balat camp in Nablus, according to Palestinian sources, noting that clashes erupted among the Palestinians in the camp and the Israeli soldiers during which the Palestinians threw stones at the Israeli soldiers, who retaliated by opening fire indiscriminately on them.

Meanwhile, three Palestinians were wounded yesterday when the Israeli forces opened fire at residential quarters in Khan Younis Camp to the south of Gaza including a student, while the Israeli forces detained 24 Palestinians during inspection and breaking operations in Beit Fourik town.

The official in charge of the Palestinian refugees affairs at the Israeli jails Qaddoura Fares said the Israeli forces detained since September 2000 some 25,000 Palestinians distributed on 11 Israeli jails.

The Palestinian resistance opened fire and mortars at the Israeli forces position near Nefe Dakalim settlement in Gaza and also opened fire at a military position near Rafah in retaliation to the fire opened by the Israeli soldiers at Palestinian homes. Three Israeli soldiers were wounded, one is in a critical condition when their car had an accident, according to the Israeli side.

Meantime, Israeli sources said that the Israeli foreign minister expects prime minister Ariel Sharon to visit Washington by the end of the current month to discuss with the US President George Bush the Road Map.

The sources added that Sharon will be meeting with the Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas following the expected visit by the US secretary of state Colin Powell to Israel and the Palestinian territories in several days.
