Land mines leave four Iraqi children injured every day

The spokesman for the UN coordinator for humanitarian affairs in Iraq, Ali Hamati, stressed yesterday in Amman that between three to 4 Iraqi children are injured every day because of land mines, according to a study conducted in the governorate of Karkouk ( Northern Iraq).
In a press conference held in Amman, Hamati indicated that this study was conducted by UNICEF and MAG's non governmental organization. He gave no further details.
The UN commissions criticized the insecure situation in Iraq since the collapse of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Officials stressed that the existence of unexpolded bombs contributes to creating of this insecure situation.
Hamati also said that seven representatives from the non- governmental "Operation Mercy" had left Amman for Baghdad, had their assets and equipment stolen.
He explained "fire was opened but no body was injured." He said that the incident took place at highway no. 10, five Km to the east of the Iraqi al-Ramadi city.
