Obeid: Syrian presence in Lebanon is regulated by al-Taif accord
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 5/2/2003
Lebanon's Foreign Minister Jan Obeid stressed that the Syrian presence in Lebanon is determined by mutual interests of Syria and Lebanon stressing that such a presence is regulated by the Taif agreement supported by the United Nations and the Arab League as well as by the Treaty of Fraternity and coordination between the two states.
In a statement to reporters yesterday Obeid indicated that Lebanon considers the presence of the Syrian troops as necessary and legitimate and all the statements of the successive Lebanese governments including the present one have dealt with the issue as such.
