Yemeni president accepts resignation of Bajmal government
Yemen, Politics, 5/2/2003

The Yemeni prime minister Abdul Qader Bajmal has submitted resignation to the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh in preparation to form a new government following the recent legislative elections.

News reports said that the Yemeni president accepted the resignation of Bajmal and assigned the government to continue running public affairs.

President Abdullah Saleh also called on the elected parliament to convene on May 10th. The Yemeni opposition had threatened not to take part in the new elected parliament in protest of the violations it said had taken place during the elections.

The Yemeni ruling Congress Party gained most of the seats of the parliament in the general elections which were held last Sunday and was followed by the Yemeni coalition for reforms which received 40 seats.
