Sudanese rebels kidnap army officer Ibrahim Ismael in Darfour

The official spokesman for the Sudanese army Lt. Gen. Muhammad Bashir Suleiman said yesterday that the rebels of Darfour area kidnapped an army officer during an attack against al-Fasher city, the largest of north Darfour province which is situated to the West.
The Lt. Gen. said that Ibrahim Bushra Ismael was kidnapped by the outlawed while he was leaving his house and they killed four of his guards. He added he knows nothing on the place of the detention of the commander of the air force commander in al-Fasher, noting that the "armed forces are chasing the rebels and killed five of them and arrested other nine." The ruler of the province Ibrahim Suleiman announced that the rebels who numbered between 400 and 450 were killed during the attack against al-Fasher where 32 soldiers were killed including two army officers and 7 civilians with four military planes destroyed.
Lt. Gen. Suleiman said that the rebels are in Jabal Sen al-Zaq'a area between the two areas of Murra Mountain and Shawaal in Northern Darfour province, stressing that the armed forces besiege them and are "determined to eliminate them." On Monday, the Sudanese authorities accused the southern rebels (SPLA) of supporting and arming the rebels in Darfour, noting that "planes carried weapons for the outlaws there." The ruler of the state said that the SPLA provided the leader of the rebels in Darfour with a small plane that permits him to move between Darfour and Nairobi.
He stressed that their leader is a Chad's opposition member called Abdullah Aba Baker.
Since several years Darfour area has been witnessing tribal clashes and raids launched by armed gangs, however, no armed political movement has appeared until the end of February this year when the Darfour Liberation Front appeared and then later after one month changed into Sudan's Liberation Army movement.
