Egyptian trade delegation in Khartoum for economic integration talks
Egypt-Sudan, Economics, 4/28/2003
An Egyptian trade delegation started a visit to Sudan for putting into effect economic integration between the two states, Egypt said.
The Egyptian delegation comprises Chairman of Foreign Trade Sector, Al-Sayed Abul-Qumasan, Chairman of the General Organization for International Exhibitions and Fairs, Mohammed Saeed El-Saleh.
El-Saleh said the 7-day visit aims at holding meetings with Sudanese officials on removing obstacles that face trade exchange in tandem with directives of Presidents Hosni Mubarak and Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.
Storage areas for Egyptian commodities would be set up in Wadi Halfa and Khartoum whereas an abattoir would also be built on the borderlines to guarantee the safety of livestock flowing into Egyptian markets, he added.
An agreement would be signed to exchange Sudanese livestock in return for Egyptian commodities estimated at $ 700 million.
Meantime, Egypt and Sudan on Saturday signed a protocol on technical cooperation in the electricity domains.
Minister of Energy Hassan Yunis signed for the Egyptian side and Ali Tamim Fartak signed for the Sudanese side, with Sudanese Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Abdel Haleem attending.
The protocol provides for enhancing cooperation in the domains of power generation and power distribution and transfer, said Yunis after the signing ceremony.
