Canary Islands' president ends visit to Morocco
Morocco-Canary Islands, Politics, 4/25/2003

President of the Canary Islands' autonomous government, Roman Rodriguez, left Agadir on Wednesday after the end of a three-day visit to the country.

Earlier in the day, Rodriguez had co-chaired the signing of a framework agreement between two Canary Islands universities and a Moroccan university, and had visited tourism sites in the region of Agadir (Moroccan Atlantic city).

At a meeting with Moroccan and Canary Islands journalists, Rodriguez said the geographic proximity between his region and the southern Morocco region of Souss Massa Draa constitutes an undeniable asset to further develop partnership between Canary Islands economic operators and Moroccan peers in this region.

The president of the Canary Islands' autonomous government expressed his government's resolve to give a new impetus to Spain-Morocco and Morocco-Canary-Islands relations.

Contacts between the two countries operators in the realms of fisheries, tourism and agriculture will yield fruit in the near future, he added.

During its visit that started on Monday, the Canary Islands' delegation and Moroccan officials agreed to promote cooperation in the realms of tourism and promotion of economic exchanges.
