Kharazi, De Villepin meeting on Iraq, regional issues

Iranian Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharazi and his French counterpart, Dominique de Villepin have stressed the necessity of respecting Iraq's territorial integrity and the establishment of an Iraqi government and Iraqi people's right to self-determination.
In a joint press conference in Tehran on Thursday, Kharazi and De Villepin stressed the necessity of solving the Iraqi question through the United Nations and offering immediate human aids to the Iraqi people.
De Villepin underlined the importance of giving the main role to the UN and called for lifting sanctions imposed on Iraq as soon as possible and for ending the file of weapons of mass destruction.
He praised Iranian president, Mohammad Khatami proposal regarding the necessity of freeing the region from weapons of mass destruction and respecting the international resolutions relevant to non-proliferation of these weapons.
De Villepin stressed the importance of Iraq's neighboring states active role for returning security to Iraq.
He also stressed the necessity of finding a solution to the Palestinian cause pointing out that his country calls for the establishment of the Palestinian state.
For his part, Kharazi rejected the US accusations about Iran's interference in Iraq's domestic affairs.
