Praising peace negotiations, US ends sanctions on Sudan
Sudan-USA, Politics, 4/24/2003

The White House announced yesterday that the US President George Bush decided not to impose sanctions against Sudan because Sudan has cooperated with the efforts aiming at an end to the conflict with the rebels in the south.

The US president commended the negotiations Sudan is making with the rebels in the southern part of the country in order to achieve peace. He said that the two sides are holding the negotiations with good intention and that these negotiations will continue until an end will be put to the conflict in the country.

The US president added that the two sides have achieved tangible progress on the road of negotiations for the sake of a just and comprehensive peace for the Sudanese people. He said that there is still a lot of work that should be completed.

For its part, the Sudanese embassy in Washington welcomed Bush's statements and said "It will give an impetus for peace negotiations in Sudan."
