Arafat agrees with Abu Mazin on new government; Israel continue house demolishing operations
Palestine-Israel, Military, 4/24/2003
The chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat has agreed with the designated prime minister Mahmoud Abbas to form the Palestinian government.
The secretary of presidency at the Palestinian authority, Tayeb Abdul Rahim, said that the differences between Arafat and Abbas has ended.
Palestinian sources said that the agreement was made under the mediation of the chairman of the Egyptian general intelligence Omar Suleiman and that Arafat had proposed to Abu Mazin three names of the central committee of the Fatah movement to choose an official for the security department other than Muhammad Dahlan, and also to keep his post as a minister of the interior.
Once again, the US had interfered in the formation of the Palestinian government and put its weight behind Abu Mazin in his difference with Arafat on the proposed names to form the government.
In a statement to PBS tv , the US Secretary Of State Colin Powell said that in case Arafat does not permit Abu Mazin to form the government he wants, then a very important chance will once again dye because of Arafat.
Meantime, the Israeli occupation forces yesterday demolished 6 Palestinian houses during their incursion in Gaza.
The Israeli forces demolished five houses in al-Mighrafa area to the south of Gaza and also a car. One house was demolished in Rafah on charge that it belongs to a Palestinian resistance man.

The Israeli radio said that a military force arrested Anas Shreitah, the prominent figure at the Islamic Jihad movement in Nablus after he was seriously wounded when fire was opened at him, when his house was attacked.
