Moussa looms to resign because of Kuwait
Regional-Kuwait, Politics, 4/21/2003
The secretary general of the Arab league Amr Moussa has stressed he will quit his post. He expressed his wonder over the accusations addressed against him by Kuwait, stressing that this matter "will be dealt with and will not be kept silence regarding it."
In a TV interview, Mousa expressed his wonder over the accusations by the Kuwaiti side against him of being biased, "because what we have made should be had done by any responsible Arab person." He stressed that this matter "will be accounted for later and will not be kept silence on -- because the secretary general of the Arab league is not a mercenary."
He added "either people should treat each other with respect and matters to be monitored in the Arab world or I will quit this post." He indicated that the "hard conditions the Arab region is passing, in all, prevent me from taking this decision." He concluded by saying "the current phase will include much clashes and might be changed -- to imposed changes."
However, Kuwaiti political figures and officials called on Moussa to resign after statements he made in March during which he criticized Kuwait, stressing that "that Arab state wanted the war" against Iraq.
The Kuwaiti deputy premier and foreign minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad said several day ago that "the Arab League is ours and Amr Moussa is a just employee in it."
