ISESCO says it will accept only the representative of an Iraqi legitimate government
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 4/18/2003

The Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) on Thursday said it will accept only the representative of a legitimate Iraqi government to take the seat of this Arab state in its fold.

The Iraq people alone are entitled to choose the government to represent them, ISESCO Director-General Abdelaziz Ben Othmane Al-Twaijri, told MAP news agency in Tunis.

"We are against the occupation of a Muslim country and for the respect of freedom and human rights including the right of peoples to choose their representatives," he said.

Altwaijri said ISESCO had decried the looting of Iraq's museums and the anarchy and criminal acts that did not spare cultural, civilizational, scientific and religious institutions.

He added that his organisation urged the UNESCO to act and safeguard what remains of Iraq's heritage and restore the stolen items.
