Al-Shara in Egypt: U.S. didn't succeed politically and lost morally in its military act against Iraq
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 4/18/2003

Syria's Foreign Minister, Farouk Al-Shara, has underlined that Syria, after her initiative in the UN Security Council, will not allow any inspection, and would participate with the Arab states and all of the countries of the world in turning the Middle East into a region free of weapons of mass destruction, nuclear, chemical and biological.

In a press conference in Cairo on Thursday, al-Shara said that the region is passing through dangerous transformations and occupation of an Arab state, Iraq, "so we have to be more consolidate and we have to shoulder our responsibilities with a high pan-Arab sense."

Shara stressed the necessity of withdrawal of the invading forces from Iraq, safeguarding Iraq's unity and territorial integrity and allowing the Iraqi people to choose their government.

Regarding the US accusations against Syria, al-Shara said that these accusations aim at diverting attention from problems and difficulties which are facing the US forces in Iraq and serve Israel's interests.

He welcomed the U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell's upcoming visit to Syria underlining the importance of dialogue between the two countries to realize security and stability in the region.

Al-Shara underlined that the Arab League is the Arab's home and it must continue its role in shouldering the national responsibilities with more trust and optimism.

Al-Shara added that the U.S. didn't succeed politically and it lost morally in its military campaign against Iraq indicating that war didn't change values and human moral and that the double standard policy became even more rejected after war.

Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak received Foreign Minister Shara who "conveyed him a message from President Bashar Al-Assad pertaining to the latest developments on the Iraqi arena and to the required Arab efforts in this stage for facing the challenges facing all Arabs."

Al-Shara also met with Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, for talks on the League's role in boosting the Arab action for facing the standing challenges threatening the whole Arab states.
