Iran: accusations against Syria are illegal, baseless

Iranian President Mohammed Khatami condemned on Wednesday the US accusations directed against Syria stressing that they are " lies and baseless."

Khatami affirmed that these accusations against Syria are continuation of the US wrong policy.

Khatami stressed on Irans' support to Syria in facing these threats asserting that "These threats against Syria and Iran are because they are independent states and that they support the Palestinian people and facing the Zionist scheme" calling America to stop these accusations.

Iranian President underlined the strong relations of cooperation between Syria and Iran.

For his part, the Iranian government spokesman stressed Iran's strong rejection to the American accusations directed against Syria. He also asserted that these accusations are illegal and baseless.

In Beirut, the Lebanese Minister of State Beshara Merhej pointed out that the American accusations against Syria are due to its national stances towards the Arab national causes.

In Kuwait, the Kuwaiti former Information Minister Saad al-Ajami affirmed that Israel played a basic role in directing the American accusations against Syria for its interests.

In Amman, the Higher Coordination Committee for the National Opposition Parties condemned the American threats against Syria. In a statement issued today the committee stressed support to Syria in facing the American threats.

For its part the Jordanian National Forum condemned the American threats against Syria asserting that these threats are targeting not only Syria but the whole Arab region.
