Fisheries Projects Financed by Spain and Japan Dedicated
Morocco-Japan, Economics, 4/16/2003
Several projects, financed by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were dedicated in northern Morocco part of the North African country's drives to develop the sector.
The projects were launched by Moroccan Fisheries Minister, Tayeb Rhafes and the ambassadors of Japan and Spain to Morocco, respectively Yoshitaka Kawamura and Fernando Arias-Salgado Y Montalvo.
They include a fish canning plant, built in cooperation with Spanish operators and a National Maritime Center, meant to give training to Moroccan traditional fishermen.
The Center also seeks to contribute to sustainable development and promote fishermen living conditions nationwide.
JICA also financed the creation of two mobile training units at a cost of US$ 90,000. JICA's non-paid assistance to Morocco's fisheries sector stands at more than 14 billion Yens (around US$1 140 million).
