Moroccan voluntary medical team travels to Iraq
Morocco-Iraq, Culture, 4/15/2003
A Moroccan medical team, comprising 8 doctors and six medics are scheduled to reach Iraq this Monday with an assistance of 1.8 ton of medicine and medical equipment. The medical team who is traveling to Iraq visa Syria will help their Iraqi counterparts who receive up to 100 injured civilians per hour, say the mission organizers.
The humanitarian mission is sponsored by the health council of support to Iraq, a group set up following the appeal launched last March 30 by the Moroccan action group for support to Iraq. It is coordinated with international relief organizations such as "pharmacists without borders," "doctors without borders" and the Iraqi and Syrian Red Crescents.
This is the first mission of the kind to date, says Khalid Seffiani, from the Moroccan action group for support to Iraq, who announced that the group is coordinating with other national and international organizations to hold similar actions jointly with other Moroccan, Arab and international bodies. A new medical team will be sent every month to take over the humanitarian mission in Iraq.
