Mubarak discusses with Bush the Iraqi issue, threats on Syria

Well- informed diplomatic sources in Cairo said that the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, is seeking to contain the statements and threats launched by American officials, in which they accused Syria of supporting terrorism, seeking to own chemical weapons and harboring former officials in the regime of the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

In this regard, an Egyptian diplomatic source announced that President Mubarak on Monday evening made a telephone call with the US President George Bush during which the US President stressed that the Road Map will be announced immediately after the formation of the new Palestinian government led by Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazin. The source indicated that President Mubarak and Bush discussed in this regard, the importance of declaring steps that should be taken by both the Palestinian and Israeli sides to confirm confidence between themselves and support stability in the Middle East region.

The Egyptian source added that during the telephone call the two presidents discussed conditions in Iraq following the collapse of the Iraqi regime and the implications of that in the collapse of the role of rule's establishments and spread of chaos and disorder. The source said that the two presidents discussed in this regard the importance of working together to rescue the Iraqi people, protect its people and financial assets, preserving its humanitarian heritage and revitalizing the role of its various establishments.
