Bush promises Iraqis security and order
Iraq-USA, Politics, 4/14/2003
US President Bush promised Iraqis that they will eventually enjoy order and security in addition to freedom.
Speaking to reporters at the White House after arriving from Camp David yesterday, Bush said it will take time to restore order out of chaos. But he promised that it will happen, and he reminded Iraqis: "You're free. And freedom is beautiful."
According to the president, the current situation is chaotic "because Saddam Hussein created the conditions for chaos. He created conditions of fear and hatred. And it's going to take a while to stabilize the country."
But stability, he said, is on its way, just as is medicine, food, and other aid.
Bush emphasized that the Syrian government must cooperate with the United States and its coalition partners and not harbor any of the leadership of the Saddam Hussein regime.
He acknowledged U.S. government suspicions that Syria has chemical weapons, but added that "each situation will require a different response...."
