Egypt requests partnership agreement immediate execution before endorsement of parliaments
Egypt-European Union, Economics, 4/12/2003
Egypt's Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, said the government would request the European Union (EU) to put into effect Egypt-EU partnership agreement even before endorsement of the remaining EU member state's parliaments.
Ebeid said a study is underway to appoint one of the government officials or a public character to manage and execute the items of the agreement, as floated during a meeting of the National Democratic Party (NDP).
The European side informed the government with the appointment of an EU coordinator to confer with Egyptian officials every 6 months.
"The Egyptian keenness to accelerate the execution of the agreement reflected the confidence in our side in the progress of industrial and economic modernization plans," he added.
The cabinet would also discuss in a meeting this week amendments introduced on investment law to give license to new investment projects upon applications but investors' procedures can later be processed.
