High dam secured, l.e. 11 billion allocated to fight water pollution
Egypt, Economics, 4/12/2003

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mahmoud Abu Zeid assented that Egypt is vigilant to any potential hazuds against the High Dam which is totally secured and capable of facing any aggressions on technical problems.

Abu Zeid in exclusive remarks to Al Ahram, said there is a plan worth L.E. 11 billion allocated to protect water canals against pollution, and this plan will be carried out throughout the coming 10 years.

The Minister reiterated denial to any secret agreements between Israel and Ethiopia to build dams on the Nile for reducing Egypt's quota.

'Egypt carefully follow up the projects Israel sets up in Ethiopia, taking into consideration that all international agreements prevent Ethiopia to erect any projects that could damage Egypt and Sudan's interests,' he said.

He asserted that Egypt will never transport the water to any other country, outside the Nile Basin countries.
