Moroccan upper house calls for preserving Iraq's independence
Morocco-Iraq, Politics, 4/12/2003

The Moroccan Chamber of Advisors (upper house of parliament) on Friday called on the international community to act immediately to preserve Iraq's sovereignty and independence and assist Iraqis reconstruct their country.

In a motion of solidarity, published at the opening of the spring session of parliament, the Chamber decried anew "of the cowardly aggression against Iraq, waged in blatant violation of the international legality." This aggression, the Chamber said, seeks to establish "a new type of international relations built on the logic of military power, paying no heed to the will of peoples."

The MPs prayed for the rest of the souls of the innocent Iraqis who were killed in the aggression "that spared neither women nor children nor elderly nor journalists." The Chamber renewed pride of the standpoints and initiatives made by Morocco in solidarity with the "brotherly people of Iraq," and called for more support to this people.

The house also praised the pertinent decisions and efforts made by King Mohammed VI to avert war and to invite the Moroccan people to generously participate in the solidarity drive with the people of Iraq.

The Chamber underlined that the Israeli occupation forces are taking advantage of the war situation in Iraq to continue subjecting the Palestinian people to more atrocities.
