Israeli warplanes violate Lebanese airspace
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 4/12/2003

Lebanese security sources said that the Israeli military planes flew over areas in South Lebanon, breaking the sound barrier over the port of Tyre on Friday.

The Israeli jets flew over the port of Tyre which is 80 Km to the south of Beirut at low altitude for just 10 minutes.

Meantime, the Hizbullah party said that its artillery opened their fire at the Israeli raiding planes which violated the Lebanese airspace near the border.

Since the withdrawal of the Israeli forces from south Lebanon in May 2000, the Israeli jets have repeatedly violated the Lebanese airspace following an occupation that lasted 22 years.

The UN interim forces in Lebanon UNIFIL, composed of 2,000 troops, is positioned in Lebanon. This force monitors a buffer zone between the two countries. The UN has repeatedly criticized the Israeli violation of the Lebanese airspace.
