Al-Shara confers with Moratinos

Syria's Foreign Minister, Farouk al-Shara, received in Damascus yesterday the European Special Envoy for Peace in the Middle East, Michel Angel Moratinos, and an accompanying delegation.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the situation in the Palestinian territories due to the Israeli continuous policy of killing and suppression against the Palestinians.
Al-Shara indicated that the international community's credibility is nowadays pledged to put an end to the Israel practices and to force it to commit itself to the international legitimacy.
For his part, Moratinos described his talks with al-Shara as fruitful.
In a statement to the reporters, Moratinos indicated the importance of Syria's role in achieving peace in the region.
He added that his talks with al- Shara dealt with the Iraqi issue stressing the importance of ensuring security and stability in the region, and saving the Iraqi independence and lands' unity.
Moratinos expressed his hope that the United Nations should take its role in Iraq pointing out that the European Union is ready to help the Iraqi people.
