Syrian parliament speaker: US lies about Iraq

The108 Conference of the International Parliament Union continued today its agenda at Santiago, the Chilean capital. Syrian People's Assembly delegation chaired by speaker of the People's Assembly, Naji Otari, participated in the meeting.

Otari stressed in his speech that the real geopolitical aims of the American-British aggression on Iraq revealed the lies of the American administration before the beginning of the war which were "Liberating Iraq, realizing the democracy, and disarmament of Iraq."

Otari added that Syria supported resolution 1441 which was adopted by the UN Security Council to solve the Iraqi crisis peacefully as well as the international inspectors who had expressed comfort over the Iraqi complete cooperation but "US - British rejected to return to the UN Security Council and lunched the unjustified and illegitimate war against Iraq."

Otari stressed that there are strong relations between the aggression on the Iraqi people and the Israeli brutal practices against the Palestinian people due to the strategic relation between Israel and the US, pointing out that Israel has never committed to any UN or the Security Council resolutions.

Otari added that Israel processes different kinds of weapons of mass destruction and it rejects to sign the Nuclear Weapons Deployment Convection and rejects to submit its nuclear establishment to the observation of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Speaker of the People's Assembly affirmed that peace in the Middle East and solving the Palestinian question will not be realized unless a complete implementation of the UN resolutions and UN Security Council 242, 338 and 425 resolutions that stipulates Israeli withdrawal of all the Arab occupied territories and establishing just and comprehensive peace on the base of land-for-peace and ensuring the Palestinian people legitimate rights of establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Otari stressed that Syria stands against the aggression asserting the importance of enhancing the role of the UN and the international parliaments in solving the international crisis.

Earlier, President of Chili Ricardo Lagos Escobar received the Chairman of the People's Assembly Mohammed Naji Otari. The two sides discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
