Iraq: a new educational system
Iraq-USA, Politics, 4/10/2003
American officials have stressed that the US will work in the phase after the war on Iraq to establish an educational system free from the military statements imposed by the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi educational establishments.
The US Agency for International development issued before the eruption of the war a bid for renewing the Iraqi educational system and is now considering various bids it had received and that the cost of the contract is 65 million dollars and it covers also the costs of issuing new educational books and buying stationary.
The spokesman for the agency Harry Edwards said that so far no one has yet been selected for this contract but the matter will be similar to what had taken place in Afghanistan. He stressed that the agency indicated in its bid that the educational system for the post-war phase in Iraq should draw the basics for democratic ideals and practices, in children and the teachers, alike.
