Economia Exterior: Spain should exert more efforts to shore up entente with Morocco
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 4/9/2003
"Economia Exterior," or External Economy, a reputed Spanish business magazine, has run a special edition on Moroccan-Spanish relations, urging Madrid to exert more efforts to shore up entente with Morocco.
Spain is called to exert more efforts to shore up entente with Morocco, writes Dario Valcarcel, editor of the magazine, who stressed that Madrid should draw maximum profit from its geographic proximity to Morocco and from the association accord binding the North African country and the European Union. This accord is the best link for Moroccan-Spanish cooperation, added the editor.
No country in the world had an influence on Spain's history except Morocco, he said, adding Morocco is a "factor of hope" in the Arab states, lauding the country's political, religious and economic openness.
Despite their converging views on certain issues, Rabat and Madrid are aware that they have shared interests that should impact their political contingencies, as evidenced by the quality of economic relations, which were not altered during the past two years of crisis, said Valcarcel.
The special issue, titled "Spain-Morocco, where are we?," is a 92-page edition including studies, analyses and opinions by various figures from different spheres.
