Algeria: 13 persons killed in al-Shalf operation

The Algerian press has announced that 11 armed Islamists and two Algerian military men were killed during the past days and other two soldiers were wounded in a mopping up operation carried out by the army in al-Shalf area ( 200 Km to the west of the Algerian Capital).

The paper said that the Algerian security forces summoned strong reinforcements to the area and used heavy artillery and helicopters to bombard the position where the armed group which belongs to a contingent from the armed Islamic group led by Rasheed Abu Turab was hidden. Abu Turab's forces are often positioned in the west of Algeria especially in al-Warsani hills in Teyart area ( 340 KM to the west of the capital Algiers ).

The Algerian daily Le Matin quoted a military source as saying that the operation is still continuous to subdue another group of armed Islamists tolling 15 members.
