Khurafi: my differences with Moussa is not personal; I regret his statements
Kuwait-Regional, Politics, 4/8/2003
The chairman of the Kuwaiti Ummah council ( speaker of parliament) Jasem Muhammad al-Khurafi several days ago expressed his regret over statements made by the secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa, stressing that the difference between him and Moussa is because that latter has violated his specialization as the AL secretary.
In a statement to the Kuwaiti news agency Friday, al-Khurafi added that the difference between him and Mousa is not "personal.. but this does not prevent reminding the AL chief of the items of the AL charter which defined the role of the AL chief and his missions." Al-Khurafi added that "according to the articles of the AL, the role of the secretary general does not include a President for the AL, rather a secretary general whose specialization are well-known." Al-Khurafi added "we do appreciate the country of the AL chief ( Egypt) and its President, government and people, but we have our reservations over his statements and behaviors which do not meet the interests of the Arab homeland.
Friday Moussa made statements replying to al-Khurafi statements he had made two days earlier concerning Moussa's alliance against Kuwait. Moussa said that his opposition to the war against Iraq does not mean he is taking a position against Kuwait.
Moussa continued that the "implications of the war and what will happen later will target all." He warned "that what is facing the Arabs" in the grave moments makes it imperative to stop nonsense and concentrate on what is facing us of dangers, which means it is not time for marginal differences."
