Al-Assad gets a telephone call from Blair
Syria-UK, Politics, 4/8/2003

Syria's President Bashar Al-Assad received on Monday a phone call from British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

Blair stressed that he appreciates Syrian-British relations in spite of the differences between the two countries' stances towards the war on Iraq.

Blair cleared out that he is against those who spread propaganda against Syria and that he seeks for enhancing cooperation and relation with Syria.

For his part, President Al-Assad clarified that Syria has been against war on the Iraqi people and land because the Iraqi people are the ones who pay cost of this war.

Al-Assad urged Blair for working on boosting the United Nations role for stopping this war and ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Both sides agreed upon the continuation of contacts and consultation between the two countries in services of the region and the Arab relations.
