Iraq war, a threat to world security, experts

The US-British war against Iraq is a threat to the very existence of the United Nations, said Moroccan experts.

The experts, meeting in Rabat Friday part of a seminar on the legal problems of the ongoing war in Iraq, said beyond the menace it poses on world peace and security, the Iraq war has raised several questions regarding the viability of international law.

The US-British aggression is an attempt to draw the contours of a new world order built on the "the law of the jungle," which means a blow to world peace.

The United Nations and the Arab League systems have to be reconsidered because they were unable to thwart the spectre of war, the experts said, adding the international law and the international humanitarian law are now subject to continuous blatant violations by the coalition forces in Iraq.

This war is neither "clean" nor "pre-emptive" as feigned by the US and British officials, they said, adding the 1949 Convention of the protection of civilians in times of war is also violated.

US military showed total despise of human rights, using banned weaponry, bombing civilian areas, markets and public installations, sparing no civilian, they said.
