Britain imposes fees on the production of the Israeli settlements
Israel-UK, Politics, 4/4/2003
The British ministry of finance has announced that Britain will impose, like other member states of the European Union, fees on Israeli exports coming from settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza.
In a written statement addressed to the House of Common, the British minister of state for economic affairs John Helly said that "the British customs started asking British importers to pay customs fees if there is a possibility that the source of their imports is the Jewish settlements in the occupied territories."
The British official stressed that the settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are "not recognized by the UN, nor the EU, in contrary to areas belong to the Israeli territories."
