Morocco-Iraq, Politics, 4/4/2003
A Moroccan plane arrived Thursday in Amman, Jordan, carrying 16.5 tons of medicines, pharmaceutical products and medical kits, as well as 58.5 tons of powder milk as an urgent aid for the Iraqi people.
The aid, made up of 15 tons of drugs, will be dispatched to Iraq after making necessary arrangements, said Mouyne Al Kassif, an official of the International Red Cross said.
The sovereign had earmarked a personal donation of 139 tons of rice, as a contribution to this humanitarian action in favor of the Iraq people.
King Mohammed VI had issued instructions for contacts with international humanitarian organizations to assess the urgent needs of the Iraqi population.
Relatedly, the Moroccan government on Thursday lauded the King's decision to extend humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people and hailed the solidarity shown by the Moroccan people with the people of Iraq, mainly through massive participation in peaceful demonstrations.
Hundreds of thousands of Moroccans marched Sunday in downtown Rabat to express solidarity with Iraq and denounce the war the US and Britain are waging against this Arab state.
