Egyptian demonstrations in Alexandria
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 4/3/2003

Demonstrations in Egyptian governorates in rejection of the US-led war on Iraq took place with trade unions, students, Islamic and Christian clergymen and members of parliament expressed condemnation of the current war.

More than 40,000 people yesterday held a popular rally at Alexandria stadium to declare their rejection of the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq and their denunciation of the massacres committed against the Iraqi people.

The demonstrators asked for an immediate halt of the aggression and said they were willing to donate blood and other assistance to the brotherly people of Iraq.

They hailed the heroic resistance of the Iraqi people to the Anglo-American invaders.

The demonstrators shouted slogans against the United States, Britain, Israel and the United Nations which they said has become under "American hegemony". Political, executive and popular leaderships took part in the march.
