Moroccan, French employers unions convene to boost economic ties
Morocco-France, Economics, 4/3/2003

Moroccan employers union (CGEM) and French peer MEDEF convened to boost economic ties between Morocco and France and to bank on the liberalization program under way in the kingdom.

This common will to consolidate French investments in Morocco was clear during a press conference held in Casablanca on Wednesday by both CGEM and MEDEF's chairmen, respectively Hassan Chami and Francois Peridot, at the end of these two unions' joint committee's 14th session.

Businessmen of the French delegation, which was received on Tuesday by Premier, Driss Jettou and Royal Advisor, Abdelaziz Meziane Belfkih, came to Morocco with thirty investment projects concerning various chapters of the Moroccan economy, said Jacques Lefevre, Vice-Chairman Lafarge Cement Company.

Reviewing CGEM-MEDEF cooperation, Lefevre further said that the joint committee devises up to twenty projects per year aiming to build on Morocco's comparative advantages, noting that the EU should present the kingdom with suitable offers within the framework of the Association Accord.

"We came here to examine with our Moroccan peers the possibility to set up an incentives-based strategy to attract French capital to Morocco," added Perigot.

The highly important changes that took place in Morocco during the last two years plead in favor of a reassessment of Morocco's competitiveness in terms of cooperation with "our major partners, mainly France," said Chami.

CGEM, he went on, is fully committed to this quantum leap achieved by Morocco by consecrating the culture of ethics, citizenship and the full social responsibility within enterprises.
