Straw on the US threats against Syria and Iran
Syria-UK, Politics, 4/3/2003
The British foreign office secretary Jacque Straw said that his country will not join launching any military action against Iran or Syria and he does not think that the US has the intention to do that after the war against Iraq.
In an interview with the BBC replying to a question on that if he fears that American officials gave the impressions that as soon as Washington finishes with Iraq, Syria and Iran will be the next, Straw said: "that will be a concern for me should it be true, but it is not and we will not take part in any thing of the sort."
Straw also urged Syria not to help the Iraqi fighters through permitting the access of supplies to them via her territories. He added it is very important that Syria is to guarantee that its land will not be used and be a channel for military supplies to the Iraqi government.
Concerning Iran, Straw said that Iran's position is quite different from Iraq, adding that Tehran is considered an emerging democracy and it is not in mind to carry out an action against it.
