Drifts of a war supposed to be clean and swift, moroccan press
Morocco-Iraq, Politics, 4/2/2003
Drifts of a war on Iraq that the coalition wanted "clean and swift" but turned out to be as dirty as all armed conflicts, made the headlines of Moroccan dailies on Tuesday that also wrote about the significance of the huge march of solidarity with the Iraqi people organized in Rabat.
Commenting on the civilian victims of coalition missiles targeting residential neighborhoods, Al Bayane says "Freedom bombs" are killing a growing number of civilians. "Because of the Iraqi resistance, the aggressors are taking revenge from civilian populations," believes Assahara Al Maghribia.
Attajamue daily wrote about last Sunday's demostrations underlining that the lesson to be learned from this huge demonstration is that "Moroccans rebuff aggression on Iraq and appeal for the halt of this devastating war that does not serve the interests of any of the belligerents, not even those of the aggressors."
Referring to the solidarity march, Bayane Al Yaoum said the Moroccan people voiced on Sunday readiness to fight with other peoples to face the dangers resulting from the new world order and defend the values of liberty, democracy and tolerance.
Moroccan dailies underscored the impact of this war on the Arab region stressing that the Arab states will be directly or indirectly affected by the US-British invasion of Iraq.
"This war heralds a new historic turning point for pan-Arabism," comments Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki which thinks that the currents events in Iraq provide opportunity to reconcile Arab regimes with their peoples.
Liberation daily said if the current American administration solely sees the region as a major home of oil resources in the planet, they have to understand too that it is historically the core of stiff resistance to multi-secular domination plans that affected the world.
"Bush and his cousin Blair do even deny the Iraqi people's right to uprising against the invasion of its territory and against the bombing of civilian populations," said Aujourd'hui le Maroc.
