Cairo expels an Iraqi diplomat, Baghdad regrets
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 4/2/2003
The Iraqi TV said that Baghdad yesterday condemned the "regrettable" decision taken by the Egyptian authorities to expel the first secretary at the Iraqi embassy in Cairo Riyad Jubeir al-Ani.
The TV explained that the Egyptian authorities gave al-Ani a grace period of 7 days to leave the country giving no reasons for this "regrettable decision." On March 23, the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher announced that his country will not expel Iraqi diplomats as demanded by Washington.
