UN Security Council warns against the situation in Somalia
Somalia-UN, Politics, 4/2/2003
A report by the UN Security Council yesterday warned against the dangers of the continued disorder and unrest situation in Somalia especially in the coastal area because it constitutes a threat for Somalia and the international community as a whole.
The report which was prepared by experts in charge of studying the violations of the embargo imposed on arms delivery to this country said that the Somali coast which is long and of difficult geography is misused by certain sides for unwanted activities in that area like smuggling weapons and sniping.
The report indicated that the equipment and explosives used in two attacks near the port of the Kenyan port of Mombassa in November 2002 passed through Somalia towards the northern coast of Kenya. The report, however, ruled out that Somalia is a resort for international terrorists, noting that this possibility is groundless at the meantime.
