Moroccan speaker calls Iraq war human catastrophe
Morocco-Iraq, Politics, 4/1/2003

Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives (lower chamber of parliament), Abdelouahed Radi, on Monday condemned the ongoing Iraq War as a "human catastrophe."

Peace-loving forces throughout the world are unanimous to decry this war as a blatant violation of international conventions and a threat to the United Nations, Radi told the Cairo-based Sawt Al-Arab radio, noting that the war currently waged by the USA and Britain against Iraq "opens the door wide open for all kinds of adventurism."

The official said the Arab group within the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) will request member countries at their meeting early April in Chile, to adopt a clear standpoint regarding the war on Iraq.

The IPU meeting will release a declaration voicing the International public opinion's rejection of the ongoing war, he said.

Meantime, several Moroccan political parties and civil society organisations have renewed decry of the US-led war on Iraq and called for an immediate halt to this "aggression."

The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP, in government) denounced the "US-British offensive against Iraq," terming the war "a dangerous embodiment of the rebirth of colonialist spirit."

Joussour (Bridges) Association voiced "full solidarity" with the Iraqi people and denounced "the destruction by allied troops of Iraq's infrastructure."

Another NGO, the Association of Parallel Diplomacy and of Dialogue among Civilizations, called on the international community to move to stopping the war, which will have, it said, serious impacts on humanity.
