Israeli forces broke into Khan Younis, large campaign of detention
Palestine-Israel, Military, 4/1/2003

The Israeli forces yesterday broke into the city of Khan Younis and launched a campaign of arrest.

The Israeli soldiers opened fire at one Palestinian citizen near al-Zeitoun ( olive ) hotel in Jerusalem and the Israeli forces carried out a campaign of arrest that targeted many of the citizens of Jaljolia and scores of the people of the West Bank and the Palestinians in the territories of 1948 ( Israel) under the charges of resisting occupation.

Israeli sources said that two explosives were found yesterday near Ereiz check point to the north of Gaza, while the Palestinians opened fire at Israeli positions in Rafah and near Ghoushe Katif settlement.

Meantime, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot said that the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon has criticized openly the chairman of the Israeli military intelligence Gen. Aharon Zaefi because he had described steps taken by the Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas as encouraging.

The paper said that Zaefi said during the weekly session of the Cabinet that Abbas expressed a sincere and positive desire to make a change. A matter which raised Sharon's regret. The paper indicated that Sharon called for judging Abbas based on his ability to halt the Intifada.

The Palestinian national resistance movement ( the Islamic Jihad ) stressed yesterday continued Intifada and resistance against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

One of the movement's key figures Muhammad al-Hindi said: we have stressed during the meeting with the prime minister in the Palestinian Authority our stand on the need to continue the uprising and resistance to challenge the occupation and to making necessary reforms through pan national dialogue.

Al-Hindi added that talking now about the "Roadmap" is just for the sake of appeasement in order to continue the American war against Iraq, rather than for serving the Palestinian issue.
