Debates to abandon the Arab League

The call advocated by the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to lay executive mechanisms to found an advanced Arab collective security that copes with the "spirit of the age, coincides with an assertion made by an Arab diplomatic source, on the beginning of consultation to rebuild an entity that totally differs from the Arab League, and that will exclude certain states, according to "negatives of previous experience."
During his meeting with the leaders and soldiers of the Egyptian third army on Monday, the Egyptian President said that the current "confrontations" taking place in Iraq raised question of "the possibility that we can have an advanced Arab collective security that copes with the spirit of the age and enhancing our potentials to withstanding internal and external challenges, alike."
Mubarak called for laying effective executive mechanism including "transforming our visions concerning them into actual reality."
Meantime, a high ranking Arab source said that the negative implications of the war have started to be reflected on the Arab system. The source unveiled that "heated debate at highest levels are being made to rebuild the Arab entity according to new concepts agreed upon by sides concerned, in line with regional and international developments." The source which asked to be anonymous said that the Arab states, current members at the Arab League will be excluded from this new attitude, according to assessment of the negatives of the previous experience and that this new composition of the entity will not be limited to the countries of the Arab Orient (al-Mashreq states), rather will continue sides from the Arab Maghreb (states) committed to the new inclination."
He added that the new "entity will differ in its composition and relations from the current system, though its mechanism represented in the Arab League will remain, but with new missions, other objectives and bases that cope with the progress taking place in the Arab states since the mid 20th century.
