Liberal parties convene their association in Casablanca

Liberal parties are holding in Casablanca starting this Friday the 170th session of the executive committee of their association that musters 89 member-parties in the presence of over 60 liberal parties representatives.
The session, meeting at the level of workshops, is looking into several themes, mainly the UN organization reform, NEPAD (New Partnership for African Development) and "Islam and the West: a liberal vision" that will be the focus of the association upcoming congress.
In the fringes of the executive committee session, the "Liberal International" will convene other meetings of various leading bodies, mainly the political bureau, the human rights committee and the women section.
Senegalese president, Abdulaye Wade, chairman of the Senegalese Democratic Party, will receive the Association's International Freedom Prize.
Created in 1947, the "International Liberal" musters liberal parties from Africa, America, Asia and Europe. Its objectives are to consolidate democracy through the promotion of human rights, freedom, social justice, the market social economy, free trade, environment sustainability and international solidarity.
It represents liberal parties in various international organizations, particularly the UN economic and social council, the European Council and the Organization of American States.
