Regional-Iraq, Politics, 3/28/2003
Secretary General of the General Popular Committee of the African Unity in Libya Ali Abdul Salam al-Tureiki Wednesday said the Arab side will continue efforts to halt the Anglo -American attack on Iraq.
In a joint interview with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa following their meeting in Cairo Wednesday, the Libyan official said the Arab League ministerial council resolutions were realistic and excellent, voicing hope that the Americans and Britons would realize the importance of halting the attack on Iraq.
Asked on the agreement reached between President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz, al-Tureiki asserted the importance of coordinating efforts to activate the Arab League Council resolutions.
He expressed belief that consultations among the Arab leaders are necessary.
It is important to halt the aggression with every political way possible, he added.
Asked about the Saudi initiative, al-Tureiki said he has not been informed about it, adding that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud AL Faisal did not speak about it during the ministerial meeting either.
However, he pointed out that any initiative that aims at halting the war is supported.
Regarding exchanged demonstrations in Kuwait and Tripoli and whether they would affect relations between the two countries, the Libyan official said there is no problem between Kuwait and Libya, pointing out that he held talks over the phone with Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah on Tuesday.
He asserted that the demonstrations staged in Tripoli were only natural as demonstrations are being staged throughout the Arab world and everywhere else.
He added that it is unacceptable to any Arab national that any Arab state offers facilities to the Americans or the Britons.
