Islamic countries calls security council to immediately end war against iraq
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 3/26/2003
Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Abdelouahed Belkziz, on Tuesday called for "the immediate cessation of war against Iraq," says a release of OIC.
OIC's Secretary General made the appeal in letter addressed to the Foreign ministers of the United Nations Security Council member countries.
"War has never proved to be the best means to settle international conflicts, says Belkziz, noting that the war against Iraq "was waged without being mandated by the Security Council, thus violating the international legality."
He further voiced the pan-Islamic organization's willingness to contribute, by all means, in crafting a peaceful settlement to the Iraqi crisis.
OIC's Secretary General has already initiated with foreign ministers of the Security Council member-states consultations over international measures to put a rapid end to the war and restore peace and security in the region.
