Call for UN General Assembly to issue resolution on Iraq war
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 3/25/2003
The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies called upon the UN General Assembly to issue a resolution calling for an end to the war in Iraq, in a statement issued yesterday.
This comes in accordance with Article 377, which allows the General Assembly to intervene in controversial issues in the event of the failure of the Security Council to find a solution.
The Institute is to take part in the General Assembly Human Rights' committee meeting on Friday in Geneva.
It will be requesting the implementation of a proposal from Malaysia and the international federation for human rights for the General Assembly to hold an emergency meeting on the matter.
The institute had submitted a similar proposal to the Arab League to be presented to Arab foreign ministers, who will be holding a meeting in Cairo today.
